Relief woodcarving is sometime called the art of deception. We create the illusion of depth and the eye hs no choice but to see the full 3D image. Some of Leo's Carvings are carved at the depth of no more than the thickness of a nickle, while others are 3-4 inches thick. You be the judge as to what is the real skill of a master carver in viewing these wood carvings depicted below.

In addition to wood carving Leo has found how gourds can take on a magical open form of art. He carves them in much the same way, and most often adds colored stains to bring out their beauty . He doesn't do as many as the carving dust that is created is toxic and hazardous to ones lungs. He cleans them out so you don't have to be concerned about this and can have them safely in your home.
